SPRING 2010 NEWSLETTER

Welcome to the spring newsletter - What’s been happening since our last letter?

Well we’ve had continued success at some of the best tournaments around the country and Europe. We’ve also added new a class to our time table.

January

The Won competition in Watford – This was the first competition of the year and we took our best fighters along with some of our junior students.

Jasmin got a 3rd place in the girls mixed belts.
Brendon and Ezra
did brilliantly to get to the final against each other,with Ezra eventually winning the battle.

Well done to the rest of the juniors – Jack, Cameron, Tyrone and Patryk who all did the academy proud, there were also good performances from the adults:-

John, Pawel, Reece 4th Andy 4th Dominec 1st LC 2nd points Krzysztof 1st LC Lisa 3rd points 1st light contact.

February

We saw the first Senior Class for red belts and above, the class was a great success and will now be a regular feature in the academy diary.

February 20th We took a small group to the WAKO British Championships in Nottingham:-

Reece got a Silver medal in the cadets +94kg light continuous category.
Domenic won the -74kg light continuous.
Richard won the +94 Vets category light continuous. 

March

The academy hopped on a plane and went to the Irish open - The Academy kept up the tradition of doing really well at this prestigious tournament.

We took a party of 14, 6 supporters and 8 fighters “and didn’t they do well”, the competition was held over 3 days. Just to give you an idea of how big it is, Friday team events - Saturday - continuous and Sunday points.

Aall of our continuous fighters won their first fights with some impressive displays from all of them especially Marek, Sam and Lukasz who set the standard that the rest of us had to follow. Krzysztof and Pawel led the line for the new fighters with some determined battling mixed with lots of skill and energy.

Krzysztof got a 3rd place in the + 80kg
Pawel 2nd in the – 70kg.
Dominec came 3rd in the -74kg advanced category.
Richard showed the youngsters how to do it by dusting off kit and winning – 94kg advanced category.

The Sunday saw our only junior point’s fighter in action Stuart lost his fight to the overall winner of the section.                                                                                                                           

March 14th was the last junior class at the Bannatynes that class has now moved to the judo hall and is now open to all not just gym members as before.(class details below)

March 27th – We had a junior grading for students up to green belt. Well done to all of them as they all passed.

OTHER NEWS AND UPCOMING EVENTS

April 3rd is the start of our new Junior class - the class will be at the judo hall from 12.30 – 14.00pm the post code for the judo hall is NN8 4PH

April 5th - Bank holiday Monday class will be at 10.30 - 12.30 judo hall – the class will involve pad work and sparring (cribs and tag team are back by popular demand).

April 18th – Senior class- this one is now open to purple belts.

April 24th - Krzysztof Kurowski will be fighting on a full contact show in Tamworth anyone who wants to come along and support can see Richard or Dave for tickets. 

April 25th – Cimac British Open- held at the north Solihull sports centre Conway road Chelmsley Wood Birmingham B37 5LA - we are hoping to take a squad to this event so speak to Dave or Richard for more details.

May 16th – senior belt class purples and above @ the judo hall from 12.30 - 2.00pm.

May – the 2nd grading of the year will be held on the 22nd May 2010 at the Judo Hall from 9.00 am till 14.00pm. Sparring on this day will be from 12.00 pm – 14.00pm

May 30th will be the 4th Fighting Fit Academy inter club - held at the Bishop Stopford School – Kettering NN15 6BJ. If you don’t want to fight come along and cheer the other students on, also anyone who is available to help out on the day can you give your name to Richard.

June 5-6th Best Fighter – Rimini – Italy- this is another major tournament where fighters come from all over the world to compete against the best.
