Fighting Fit Academy – January 2010 Newsletter

Happy New Year and welcome to the January newsletter
What’s been happening since our last letter? Well we now have a lady British title holder and another world champion in our club, also we held the biggest grading in the history of the academy set over 2 days involving 45 students, we also lost one our original students Darren Chapman has moved to Nottingham good luck to him. Now let’s bring you up to date with what’s been happening.
October - Darren Chapman and Richard represented the academy at the WAKO World Championships in Austria Richard won the gold medal and Darren narrowly missed out on the gold medal he got well deserved silver.
November – we took 30 supporters down Watford to support Lisa as she became only the strong British Champion the fight was a draw after 4 rounds so the ladies had to fight a Fifth round which Lisa took with a unanimous decision.
November – Darren fought on the Cimac extravaganza show in maidenhead, he lost to one of the legends of the sport Stuart Lawson.
November - We had a grading on the weekend of 28/29 when over 40 students took and passed there next belts, the Academy now boast 7 red belts and 2 Brown belts well done to all those seniors who took their grading on the Sunday as this was one of the toughest Grading’s I have ever been involved with.
December - we had our annual presentation evening and the awards went to the following students -
Junior Student of the year – Jasmin Gillett
Junior Most Improved Student – Jack Taylor
Junior Most Improved Student – Patryk Ulikowski
Adult - Student of the Year – Lisa Smith
Most Improved Student – Lukasz Krolik
Clubmen of the Year – Caroline Lyddall
Biggest Major Achievement - Darren Chapman
Fighter of the Year - Darren Chapman
Fighters Fighter of the year – Lisa Smith

Some of the more senior members old and new were celebrating another successful year in the history of the Fighting Fit Academy at the annual Presentation evening.
Marek, Lukasz, Pawel, Brad, Richard, Ala, Lynzey, Sheridan, Ella, Rosalind, Sheridan, Krzysztof.

The team at the judo hall class on Bank Holiday Monday - getting a head start on burning off some off that Christmas pudding.
The team - John, Stuart Jim, Lisa, Roly, Pete, Andy, Jack, Colin, Lynzey, Bob, Gary, Reece, Brendon, Chase, Paige, well done to all of you for braving the elements.
Other News & Upcoming events
Here at the Academy we are looking forward to another successful year and with more members joining the fighting Squad we hope 2010 will bring even more trophies and titles.
Our competitions this year start with...
The won Competition held at the Hemel Hempstead sports centre, Hemel Hempstead, HP1 1JS on the 31st January 2010 this tournament is ideal for members as it has a large number of novice categories.
Super league 1, on the 7thFebruary 2010 held at the Windsor leisure centre, Windsor, SL4 5JB. This competition is a good indicator of how students are improving as the standard of competitors is very high.
Wako British Championships 20th – 21st February 2010 held at the Harvey Hadden, sports centre Nottingham NG8 4PB, – This competition is the first step on the way to European and World championships at the end of the year as it also serves as the qualifiers for the Great Britain squad.
Irish open 5th – 7th March 2010 Saggart, Co Dublin, Ireland, This is the biggest tournament in Europe and is held over 3 days and attended by over 2000 competitors.
Super league 2 on the 21st March 2010 held at the Newport centre, Kingsway Newport, South Wales.
February 14th 2010 is first senior class of the year the class will be at the judo hall from 12.30 – 2.00 the lesson is for senior grade students purple belts and above.
The first grading of the year will be held on the 28th march 2010 at the Judo Hal l Wellingborough NN8 4PH from 9.00 am till 13.30 pm the grading is for selected students and they must register by the 25th March 2010.
So I hope you’ve all had a good break and are now ready to put in some hard work and help push the academy forward.
